Accessibility
Our commitment to accessible design online and inclusive practice at in-person events.
We are committed to making our website and in-person events accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Our target standard is WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We aim for plain-English language, clear visual hierarchy, and usable interactive elements throughout the site.
Accessibility is not a compliance exercise — it is a design value. Conservation work is community work, and community means everyone. If something on this site or at an event creates a barrier for you, we want to know about it and fix it.
This site is built with the following accessibility standards in mind:
All interactive elements — navigation links, buttons, form fields — are accessible via keyboard tab navigation. Focus states are visible throughout the site.
Semantic HTML elements are used throughout. Interactive controls carry appropriate aria-label attributes. Landmark regions (nav, main, footer) are clearly defined.
Text and interactive elements are designed to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios. The palette was selected with contrast as a primary consideration. Dark text on light backgrounds is used throughout body content.
Content is written in plain English. We avoid jargon, use short sentences, and structure information with clear headings. Abbreviations are avoided in running text.
The site is fully responsive and accessible on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop screens. Text does not overflow its containers and all content remains readable at standard browser zoom levels up to 200%.
Most of our volunteer workdays and community events are held outdoors on active restoration sites. We are committed to making these events as accessible as possible within the nature of the work.
Mobility accommodations: Every workday includes at least one accessible task that does not require standing, walking long distances, or physical exertion. Options include seed cleaning, plant labelling, specimen documentation, and education station support. Please indicate any mobility needs when you sign up and we will confirm the available accessible tasks for that specific event. Accessible parking is available at the site staging area. Seating and rest areas are provided at all events. If you need additional accommodation — a specific walking distance, surface type, or rest frequency — let us know and we will do our best to accommodate it.
Sensory accommodations: Workdays can involve noise from tools and equipment. If you are sensitive to sound, please let us know so we can position you away from power equipment areas. We can also provide a written schedule and task list if verbal instruction is a barrier. Service animals are welcome at all events.
Age-friendly pacing: Our field crew leads are trained to pace work to the group, not the fastest participants. Breaks are scheduled and water is always available. Older participants or those with lower stamina are encouraged to attend — there is always useful, meaningful work at whatever pace is right for you.
Youth participation: Supervised youth participants aged 14 and over are welcome at most workdays with a guardian present. Please contact us in advance to confirm age-appropriate tasks for your group.
If you need an accommodation for an in-person event — whether related to mobility, sensory needs, dietary requirements, language, or anything else — please contact us at least 7 days before the event. This gives us time to plan appropriately and ensure the accommodation is genuinely in place, not just acknowledged.
Email hello@example.com with the date and event you are attending, and a brief description of what you need. We will confirm receipt within two business days and follow up with specifics before the event.

This is a demonstration site. As such, some interactive elements are simulated rather than fully functional, which may affect their accessibility behaviour in certain assistive technology contexts:
A real implementation built by RG Consulting for a live client would undergo accessibility review before launch. These known limitations are specific to the demonstration context.
